The Queer Gardening Group meets twice a month, usually on a Saturday from 11am-3pm. We split our time between Gracemount Community Garden and the Salisbury Centre.Anyone who would get something from a queer and LGBT+ focused group is welcome! We don't put anyone on the spot.We try to be led by what everyone's interested in while working toward climate transition, and we always make time for a chat with tea. Some recent activities have been a houseplant swap and cuttings workshop, pickling, natural dyeing and sewing a pride flag, and all the parts of planting and tending a community garden.
Access Info for Gracemount Community GardenFor newcomers, directions to the garden can be easily found by searching Gracemount Mansion or Gracemount Community Garden on Google Maps. As you enter the mansion grounds, you'll spot a portacabin on your left, with the garden just behind it through an archway in the wall. Gracemount Community Garden is a public space, people may come and go throughout the day.The garden is wheelchair accessible via the Gracemount Mansion grounds. There are no stairs to enter, although there is a slope; if you use a manual wheelchair and need assistance, we are available to help. The garden itself is mostly flat and has a combination of even and uneven paths, wide enough for wheelchairs, with surfaces made of gravel or grass. There are a few elevated planters and tables for people to garden while sitting on a chair. The indoor portacabin space is step-free and there is a gender neutral, accessible toilet on site, though the door is heavy and opens outward. There is limited parking available outside the mansion. Support and assistance dogs are welcome. As a community space, the group is actively working on making the garden more accessible and welcomes any requests or feedback to better accommodate the diverse needs of participants. Please get in touch if you have any questions or concerns regarding accessibility.
